Currently trying to recover from playing two recent music festivals with the incomparable
Jacob's Pillow. Still trying to get the mud off my boots...

You know something has possibly gone wrong with your life when you find yourself sitting in a recording studio at 3am contemplating the artistic merits of attacking a cheese-grater.

My
Spotlight Interview is now online, I sort of rambled on a bit but there may be one or two interesting nuggets of information buried in there somewhere!

Arrggh. Still 9 songs off completing
FAWM and 2 songs off my personal target of 7. Still got one day, though. 2 songs in one day is possible. Isn't it? Feeling musically and lyrically drained but I'm going to give it my best shot.
As usual, I've managed to leave a ton of coursework until the last minute. Now, procrastination is a common trait amongst students, true, but I really do take it to a higher level. When most people say 'the last minute,' they mean perhaps the night before. For me, this means hours before. Staying up all night hacking away at a stupid meaningless program whilst swigging espresso from a thermos flask. If they gave out degrees for last-minute-ness, I would surely be sorted.

FAWM Update!
Well, there's less than a week or so to go and I'm still 9 songs off the target but I'm progressing slowly but surely with the
FAWM 2007 project.
As I mention on
my page, I only managed four songs and a broken nose last year. At this moment in time I currently have five songs and no broken nose. Think I'm doing well. I want to at least make it to seven. Will I do it? Will my nose escape another breaking? Only time will tell!
After a few mad weeks of not being very well and having lots of gigs and other things to do, finally I am back in the studio recording some new stuff. I think it's a bit ridiculous that I've been writing songs for over seven years and have never got round to recording a proper EP, despite having access to all this amazing recording equipment, so I've made it my mission to finish an EP by the summer. And also to get Tom to play sax on a least one of my songs. After much arm-twisting I finally got him to do some crazy jazz-flute on 'She Loved A King' at a gig we played last Friday. Think we may have to do a new recording of that song...
Just uploaded one of my demos for
FAWM 2007:

In other news, my extraordinarily talented sister has created some amazing artwork for me. It was partly inspired by William Holman Hunt's
"Lady of Shallot."

Israfel is going to be interviewing me for the March edition of The Spotlight! Submit any questions, particularly silly ones,
here!

I'm taking part in
FAWM 2007. Perhaps somewhat foolishly given I have one gig and two electro-acoustic diffusions this weekend and a silly amount of lab reports and essays to write. Oh well. This is what they invented coffee for, I suppose.
Follow my laughable progress
here!

As I'm back home in Orkney for Christmas now, I went hunting around on my old PC and found a new version of one of my older songs, 'Down by the Water,' which I recorded last summer and somehow completely forgot about. I present it now, for your delectation and delight.
